Guided Walks and Events - 1 October ‘04 to 30 April ‘05

·        All the walks are away from the road and may not be suitable for the less mobile. Please ask when booking if you have any special needs

·        Children are welcome on all walks and events but note that one walk is in the dark

Sunday 3rd October at 11.30am: Apple Day

 

Meet at West Grinstead Orchard behind the Little Chef on the A272 1.5 miles east of A24/A272 Buck Barn cross-roads.  OS Grid Reference TQ 184 225

 

A family event celebrating apples with traditional apple games, local crafts and opportunities for children to make bird boxes and bird food.  Visit the carriage information centre.  Join the Rangers and volunteers at approximately 1pm for a short walk around the old railway site to gather seeds and learn about useful plants.  1 mile/1 hour.

Thursday 21st October at 7.30pm: Nocturnal Amble Along Old Railway Line

 

Meet at West Grinstead Old Railway Station next to the Little Chef on the A272 1.5 miles east of A24/A272 Buck Barn cross-roads.  OS Grid Reference TQ184 225

 

A gentle stroll southwards on the Downs Link to view the autumn night sky.    miles/1 hour.

Tuesday 26th October at 10.45am: The Farmland and Waterways of Billingshurst

 

Meet at Billingshurst Railway Station OS Grid Reference TQ 0808 2501

 

Back by popular demand!  A walk from Billingshurst railway station exploring the farmland, including an organic farm, and the waterways of the area.  8 miles/5½  hours.

Wednesday 24th November at 10.30am: Autumn Views Of the Downs

 

Meet at Washbrooks Family Farm, Hurstpierpoint on B2117, 500 metres south of the mini roundabout.  OS Reference TQ279.162.

 

Treat yourself to morning coffee and cake at the farm and then take a stroll out to the foot of the Downs.  After enjoying the views and exploring the area back for lunch and time to visit the farm or historic Hurstpierpoint.  5 miles/3 hours.

Wednesday 16th February at 10.00am: Explore the winter world of the River Adur in Shermanbury.

 

Meet at Kidders Lane Picnic Site just north of Henfield on the A281.  OS Reference TQ212.179.

 

A gentle circular walk to experience the River Adur floodplain and its wildlife in winter.  Bring wellies and binoculars.  Pray for rain!  3 miles/2½ hours.

Wednesday 20th April at 10.30am: An Historical Walk around West Grinstead

 

Meet at West Grinstead Old Railway Station next to the Little Chef on the A272 1.5 miles east of A24/A272 Buck Barn cross-roads.  OS Grid Reference TQ184.225.

 

Come for a circular walk around West Grinstead and familiarise yourself with the area.  Learn more about the old railway, canal and monastery.  8 miles/5½ hours.
