High Hurst Copse

This newly renovated path takes us westwards back to Burnthouse Lane. Turn south and, halfway up Peacocks Hill, turn into High Hurst Copse. These are private woods but we have permission to walk through to the next public footpath. Here you will soon see Earthballs, Scleroderma citrinum, larger than the S. areolatum that we saw earlier in similar circumstances.
When the path divides take the high road and continue through to the public footpath that crosses the ridge from High Hurst Farm. This is one of the best spots I know for the Wood Mushroom, Agaricus sylvicola, and this is to my taste the most delicious of all edible fungi.

Back Home

The public footpath takes us off the ridge, across a wide grassy field and then up a rather meanly narrow corridor to Park Lane. It is now a pleasant undemanding downhill stroll back to the White Horse.
